Liquid Level Controls
1. Function & Working Principles
The FM type level switch, which is mounted to the side wall of a tank to detect the liquid level, is used as an alarm or control.
*AS shown in Fig. 1, a magnet is built in at the rear end of the float shaft and a Reed switch is sealed in and fixed inside the boss. As the float moves up and down according to variation of the liquid level, the magnet also moves up and down and the resultant variation of magnetic field intensity acting on the “Reed” switch causes the “Reed” switch to turn “ON” and “OFF”. In other words, when the magnet gets near the “Reed” switch the switch turn “ON” and when it gets away the switch turns “OFF”

4. Method of Mouting
It is necessary to provide such a gap as shown above because of the magnetic path.
5. Mounting Direction
If mounted with the wire gland positioned on the right side, the switch turns on as the liquid level rises, whereas if mounted with the wire gland positioned on the left side, it turns on as the liquid level lowers.
6. Method of Wiring
* When load exceeds level switch capacity, mount a relay as shown in Fig. 2.
